In Pieces (musical)

Clarke will be playing guitar in the pit for new musical In Pieces, by Joey Contreras.

”In Pieces threads the music and pop catalog of songwriter Joey Contreras into a theatrical setting. With a fair share of sensitive emotions and anthemic bops, In Pieces reflects on the romantic journeys of eight individuals, as they share, ponder and look back on the chosen paths and partners along the way. Set in New York City, there’s the scary excitement of being vulnerable and saying yes to whatever adventure is ahead. The magical first kiss. An unlikely friendship. Well-kept secrets. The monotony. The rebound. An awkward reunion on the 1 train. And the honest conversations of deserving more. All these pieces of a life that at times connect and disconnect, but once at a distance, come together to create a universal remembrance of what it’s like to be young and learning in love.” More info can be found here.

CANCELLED – Ensemble Uncaged: Fundamental/Elemental

“Longy’s premiere contemporary music ensemble will explore diverse programs that encourage performer and listener alike to examine the fundamentals and elements of music. Each piece and program will frame ideas through rhythm and melody, harmony and texture, form and dynamics. We’re taught that these elements make up the fundamental building blocks of music, but in the 21st century, is that actually true? Join Ensemble Uncaged as we explore these illuminating concepts.”
Clarke will perform on guitar. Details can be found here.

CANCELLED – AHA @ the Lilypad

"April 14th at 10:30p, progressive jazz trio AHA will hold an EP release show at the Lilypad in Inman Square. The performance will feature several premieres of pieces composed by the group’s members, as well as modern arrangements of existing works. Aaron Clarke’s Elate Confusion, Alex Dillon’s This Way 2 Quiznos, and Hayes Cummings’s Aaah haa are among the group's original contributions. Featured arrangements will include The Decemberists's When the War Came and Thelonious Monk's Brilliant Corners.

”AHA is a trio comprised of Alex Dillon (drums), Hayes Cummings (guitar), and Aaron Clarke (guitar). Having a love for various styles of music, AHA gravitates to a primal, intense interpretation of music in a jazz-meets-hard-rock landscape. Drawing inspiration from groups as diverse as Sun Ra, Led Zeppelin, and The Decemberists, the goal of the group is to present a music which is chaotic, fun, and artistically satisfying. Additionally, each member of the trio plays an equal role in the composing and arranging process.”

CANCELLED – Graduating Student Recital: Meditations on Democracy

“This evening's compositions will consist of a mélange of styles, following on Clarke’s desire to break down the musical barriers between genres. Each piece will be prefaced with a spoken quote, curated from various luminaries – favorite writers, politicians, etc. – followed by a musical exploration and interpretation of the concept or sentiment of the quote. Through a series of recurring musical motives and the central focus on democracy and its place in our modern life, the several pieces in the concert can be seen as one larger whole, almost a suite of sorts. Clarke will be joined on stage by colleagues from his alma mater, the University of Southern Maine, as well as Longy students, to bring his works to life.”
Join us for a post-show soirée in Wolfinsohn, where there will be additional live music.
